"What an awesome day!!!

Shenandoah Conservatory's Musical Theatre Program welcomed Mary Page Nance (Broadway's Natasha, Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812; Finding Neverland) for a Broadway Styles Workshop and Q&A session. Mary Page was so incredibly generous of spirit, talent, and love for our art form. Her infectious energy and joy left our musical theatre students feeling inspired and motivated to continue pushing toward their goals.

FELLOW EDUCATORS:

If you are looking for a fun and engaging guest teaching artist, please consider inviting Mary Page Nance. Your students will thank you! Again, though I am exhausted at the end of a long and busy day, I am reminded of how much I love my work at Shenandoah. Thank you, Mary Page AND ShenCo MT students, for sharing your talent and positive energy today! My heart is full. ❤️ "

"I have had the distinct pleasure to work with Mary Page Nance on multiple sides of the classroom. I’ve worked with her as an administrator, as a collaborator, and I’ve even had the opportunity to take her class! Regardless of the setting, though, it’s hard not to be in awe of what Mary Page brings to the classroom.

Here at the School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community (SPARC) – where she took performing arts classes herself once upon a time! – Mary Page has generously offered her time on multiple occasions to pass on her knowledge to the next generation of aspiring performing artists. Mary Page has the ability to not only engage students, challenge them, and push them further than they might have expected, but to also encourage a sense of ease through her genuine smile and approachability.

As a program manager at SPARC, I come across a lot of varying styles for classroom management and communication with students. For me, though, cultivating an environment in which students will take risks, dare to be wrong, and “try again harder the next time” is what it’s all about. I can say without a doubt that when Mary Page is teaching, she effortlessly creates such an environment. Our students grasp for her every last word and continue to thrive under her guidance. Mary Page has a wealth of knowledge to share, and I can only hope that she continues to be such an amazing asset to us here at SPARC. "

"Mary Page is not only an incredible dancer, she is an incredible teacher. She works to your level, while providing you with challenges at the same time. Her skill set is incredible, and there isn’t a dance step she can’t do! She is personable and kind, and always has a smile on her face. I always love working with Mary Page for many reasons, but mostly because she is the type of performer that I aspire to be; dedicated, extremely talented, and a wonderful person- everything you would want in a teacher and more!"

and Partnering Workshop

Sharon Waleik Foster, Parent of Meraki Camper

"Hi Mary Page, My daughters, Samantha and Hannah, both went to Camp Meraki this summer. I was blown away by the final performance, and in particular the number you taught them, Balaga. Hannah (13) is still talking about you, the dance and her experience. Samantha has decided to go back next year...that is a miracle. Samantha experiences panic attacks and for that reason, she almost left Camp Meraki after 2 days. We talked her through the difficult time and reminded her about the strategies for self-calming that she could use. After meeting you and learning the dance/song, she was determined to stay. She stayed because of the incredible experience she had with Balaga. I thank you for that. It has given her the boost she needs to keep moving forward and to help her realize that she can work through her anxiety and see all that life has to give her. I will be forever grateful!"

Will, Meraki Camper

"...Coming to camp has always been a special thing for me and everyone else in it. And I really just wanted to thank you for being there for us and helping us learn that amazing number. I normally don't really care much for theater but I can say without a doubt that you have really showed me how much fun can be found in theater. So... thank you!"
